PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a large image having dots more than the effective dots of a portable terminal on a display screen by devising a transmitting method for image data. SOLUTION: Image data 14 which are laterally long as shown in a figure (a) and exceed over the whole area of the display screen 13 both longitudinally and laterally are rotated by 90 deg. to make the short sides lateral (b); and the lateral image data are compressed to data of dots less than the number of the effective dots of the portable telephone and transmitted, and the longitudinal image data are transmitted as they are without changing the number of dots. Then the portable telephone rotates the original display image data 14 by 90 deg. and the display data 14 having been reduced laterally are received (c). At that time, the display image data 14b are all displayed laterally, but partially cut in the lateral direction and displayed on the display screen 13. Further, when the display screen 13 of the portable telephone is rotated by 90 deg. and turned laterally, display image data 14b is displayed laterally long as well as the original image and the whole image is scrolled for display.
