The invention relates to a precursor material for a bismuth-containing superconductor 2223. Said precursor material comprises a bismuth-containing 2212 phase as the main component thereof and one part of Cu2O amounting to between 0.1 and 20 weight percent. The inventive precursor material is produced by thermally treating a starting mixture consisting of oxides or Bi, Pb, Sr, Ca, Cu nitrates in oxidising or reducing atmospheres.
