The invention concerns a device for maintaining the temperature of a reformer (4) supplying hydrogen to a fuel cell (1) powering the electric engine (2) of a vehicle, consisting of an auxiliary fuel cell (7) connected to electrical heating means (6) of the reformer (4) for maintaining its temperature, so as to enable the instant restart of the main cell. The hydrogen supplying the auxiliary cell (7) is derived from an auxiliary reformer (8) supplied with fuel by a secondary tank (8) or by the tank (5) of the main cell (1).
