The pipe collar (16) has a layer on the inside of a fire-proof expanding material (36), which is expanded by heat. The collar is a foil or strip-like length of flat material, of e.g. aluminum foil (24) or an aluminum-coated foil. It has a first long strip section (32) carrying the expandable material, and a second long strip section (22) with a layer of adhesive (26), which is protected by a pull-off strip (44).
