The device, in particular, as an aid to breast-stroke swimming comprises plastic holding rails which are joinable to the outer sides of swimmer's lower legs, and are provided with blades joined to the holding rails by hinges. The blades are arranged so that during the propulsive stroke of the legs they pivot outwards and thus increase the area contributing towards the propulsive force. At the end of the propulsive stroke they pivot back into their original position against the holding rails and remain there until the next propulsive stroke.
