It is intended to provide a novel protein. More particularly, a protein having an amino acid sequence which is the same or substantially the same as the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 or it salt; DNA encoding this protein; drugs containing the above protein or DNA; a method of screening a compound having an activity of promoting or inhibiting the peptidase activity of the above protein, etc. The above-described protein and the DNA encoding the same are usable as preventives and remedies for diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Cells capable of expressing the protein or its gene are useful as a material for screening a compound having an activity of promoting or inhibiting the peptidase activity of the above protein or its salt.
