A cotton-like coagulated article (B) comprising iron-based ground chips and a grinding fluid containing an oil and water is subjected to compression forming to manufacture a brittle formed product (C) which comprises a ground powder having fibrous particles roughly cut and does not contain excess water and oil. The brittle formed product (C) is subjected to pulverization to cut finely the particle in the ground powder, and the resultant product is admixed with a solidifying auxiliary (D) to manufacture an iron-based power material (E) containing the solidifying auxiliary (D).
