The system stores data in a storage medium that comprises two opposing coherent beams. Gratings can be written in at least one region of the storage medium when coherent interference occurs between the beams. The storage medium is displaced relative to the beams. The data are written in the form of strip-shaped gratings. An Independent claim is included for a method of writing data in a storage medium.
