The extruder has a feed zone(2), a mastication and plasticization zone(4) with kneading blocks for adding plasticizer and additives and a dispersion zone(6) with further kneading blocks for mixing in fillers. The gap breadth between the flight land of the kneading blocks and inner wall of the barrel is 0.01D-0.1D where D is the kneading block diameter. An Independent claim is made for a process for compounding filled elastomers, in particular rubbers, which involves feeding, masticating and plasticizing an elastomer, plasticizer and/or additives, and dispersing a filler with the kneading blocks producing a shear rate of 10-3000/sec, in particular 30-1000/sec between the flight lands of the kneading blocks and barrel. |
