A disk device (10) comprises a spindle (50) to which a magneto-optical disk (48) of ZCLV type is attached. When a optical pickup (12) is moved to another zone of the magneto-optical disk (48) during recording or reproducing, a DSP (40) rotates a spindle motor (52) at an optimum rotational speed corresponding to the zone where the optical pickup (12) is moved in synchronism with an FG pulse outputted from a motor driver (54). When the optical pickup (12) reaches a desired track belonging to the zone, the DSP (40) rotates the spindle motor (52) according to the FCM signal outputted from an FCM signal detecting circuit (28). The spindle motor (52) rotates at the optimum rotational speed corresponding to the zone.
