PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the power saving and improvement in durability in an electric oil pump driven during the period from the stop of an engine independent from the operation of an ignition key to the restart thereof. SOLUTION: This automatic stopping/starting device for engine is used for a vehicle equipped with hydraulic equipment (hydraulic automatic transmission) using the oil pressure from a mechanical oil pump (ATO/P22) generating the oil pressure by the drive of the engine as working oil pressure, and it stops the engine when an engine stopping condition independent from the operation of the ignition key is satisfied, and restarts the engine when an engine starting condition is satisfied. This device comprises an electric oil pump (auxiliary O/P21) to the mechanical oil pump. The electric oil pump is driven so as to generate a low oil pressure according to the satisfaction of the engine stopping condition and generate a high oil pressure according to the satisfaction of the engine starting condition, and the drive of the electric oil pump is stopped when a prescribed condition is established after the restart of the engine.
