PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition whose flame retardance has achieved at a high level with a halogen-free flame retardant. SOLUTION: This flame retardant resin composition comprising (A) a thermoplastic resin (such as a polyester-based resin) and (B) a flame retardant, characterized in that (B) the flame retardant comprises (B1) a polyphenylene oxide- based resin, (B2) a phosphate (such as a condensed phosphate), and (B3) the salt of a nitrogen-containing cyclic compound with at least one acid selected from sulfuric acid, sulfonic acids and boric acid. The nitrogen-containing cyclic compound includes melamine and melamine condensate. The sulfuric acid includes non-condensed sulfuric acid and condensed sulfuric acid [(pyro)sulfuric acid], and the sulfonic acids include alkyl sulfonic acids and aryl sulfonic acids. (B) The flame retardant is added in an amount of, for example, 10 to 300 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of (A) the thermoplastic resin.
