PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera with which failures in photographing are reduced by enabling a photographer to recognize that the camera is set in a non- photographic mode by the difference in the senses of operation for an operation member. SOLUTION: A mode-setting dial 3, provided at the upper part of an electronic camera 1, possesses a dial body 5 which is rotatable with respect to a body 2. A release button 4, provided on the rotary shaft of the dial body 5, is not rotated with respect to the body 2. When the dial body 5 is at a position, at which a photographing mode is selected, the projected part 47 of the release button 4 enters the inside of a recessed part 57 of the dial body 5, and the release button 4 is depressed. When the dial body 5 is at a position at which the non-photographing mode, such as a personal computer connection mode and a reproduction mode is selected, the lower surface of the projected part 47 of the release button 4 abuts on the step surface 52 of the dial body 5, and the release button 4 becomes incapable of being depressed in.
