PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspecting device capable of speedily performing inspections, regardless of the state of the surface of, for example, a transparent film package and the internal state of the package. SOLUTION: The device for inspecting a birefringent object to be inspected is provided with an irradiating optical system 10 for irradiating a birefringent object to be inspected 1 with line light of incoherent light polarized in a prescribed polarization direction, an image pickup element 22 for detecting light from the birefringent object to be inspected 1 to acquire color information, and an analyzer 21 arranged between the birefringent object to be inspected 1 and the image pickup device 22. Since linear light is used, high illumination uniformity and correct color information are obtained.
