PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color printer where the entire print operation is made efficient when a toner unit exists which does not have residual toner at all or which is not set yet exists. SOLUTION: A toner unit detection part 221 detects whether toner units are set, and a toner residual amount detection part 222 detects the residual amounts of toner in toner units, and an available toner discrimination part 223 discriminates whether the toner of each color is available on the basis of these pieces of detection information. A memory allocation control part 224 controls memory allocation quantities to a frame memories 213 of respective colors on the basis of information of the available toner discrimination part 223. If it is recognized that any toner unit is not available, a memory reserved for frame generation of the corresponding color is allocated for that of another color, and the frame memories of colors which are known to be not used are released and are allocated to frame memories of other available colors, and thus a host is early released and an engine is efficiently used. |
