PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that picture quality problems such as flickers and false contours arise when multiple gradations are displayed by binary values with time or the combinations of multiple write voltages in the sub-frames weighted in an active matrix display device. SOLUTION: Flickers are reduced by shifting polarity inversion time by each sub-frame within a frame period and combining it with line inversion, or making the sub-frames differ in polarity in a single frame. When expressing the number of scanning lines by L, a horizontal scanning period by H, a voltage level to be applied to signal lines by A and the number of display gradations by B, scanning is selectively performed a plurality of times in a single frame in a prescribed order of the scanning lines so that a single frame period is made shorter than 'H×L×(B-1)/(A-1)' and also at least sub-frames are made to differ in the order and timing in adjacent scanning lines, thereby controlling flickers and false contours. |
