PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of mass-producing a thermostable carbon whose process is simple and carried out at low temperature in atmospheric pressure using a conventional apparatus. SOLUTION: The thermostable carbon is manufactured by the following processes: The catalyst 3 which is prepared by a sol-gel method and comprises 30 wt.% Ni-SiO2 is filled into the reaction tube 1, heated at 500 deg.C by the electric furnace 7 and preliminarily reduced for 1 hr by gaseous hydrogen whose flow rate is 50 ml/min. Then the gas mixture of hydrogen and carbon dioxide whose mixing ratio is 2 to 1 is passed through in the reaction tube 1 with space velocity of 7000/hr for 30 min. Carbon dioxide in the gas mixture is catalytically- reduced with hydrogen by coming in contact with the catalyst 3 to deposit the thermostable carbon on the catalyst surface. |
