PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toner which suppresses hot offsetting in heat fixation and can form an image of high image quality in the case of toner produced by a polymerization method and has superior fixability in the case of a small diameter toner and to provide a method for producing the toner. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic toner is obtained by polymerizing a radical polymerizable monomer composition containing a chain transfer agent selected from mercaptosilane compounds of the formula HS-R1-Si(OR2)(OR3)-R4 (where R1 is a 1-20C alkylene and R2-R4 are each a 1-4C alkyl) in an aqueous medium and subjecting the resulting resin particles to salting-out/fusion in an aqueous medium.
