PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To intentionally perform an appropriate repair in case of a trouble occurs during operation of an internal combustion engine in the diagnostic method of the component 38 of the internal combustion engine 10. SOLUTION: A component that may possibly be the indirect cause of a trouble is inspected under the 'inspection operation condition' of the internal combustion engine to determine whether the same trouble will occur or not by intentionally bringing the engine to that condition which can never be the indirect cause of the trouble.
