PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transport a sheet along a sheet transport passage with varying transporting direction and to hinder the sheet from being damaged certainly. SOLUTION: This sheet transporting device 22 is equipped with a first 32 and a second transport system 68 whose transporting directions vary from each other and a movable guide mechanism 72 to hand over storage phosphor sheet S between the first 32 and second transport systems 68. The movable guide mechanism 72 is equipped with a holding means 78 to hold the phosphor sheet S and a rotating means 80 for revolving the held sheet S at a rotating speed corresponding to the transporting speed of a roller couple 76.
