PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for polymerizing anα-olefin capable of producing a higher stereoregularα-olefin polymer and to provide a method for producing the higher stereoregularα-olefin polymer. SOLUTION: This catalyst for stereoregular polymerization of theα-olefin is obtained by bringing (A) modified particles prepared by bringing dried particles into contact with an organometallic compound, then bringing the resultant product into contact with a compound having a functional group having an active hydrogen or a proton-nondating Lewis basic functional group and an electron attractive group into contact with (B) a transition metal compound represented by the following general formula (4) (wherein, M is a transition metal atom of group 4 of the periodic table; L is a substitutedη5-indenyl group; and Y is a cross-linking group connecting two Ls) or bringing the particles (A) into contact with the transition metal compound (B) and (C) an organometallic compound. The method for producing the stereoregularα-olefin polymer uses the catalyst for polymerizing theα-olefin.
