PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet feeding device having a document separating mechanism embodied on the frictional separation system whereby it is possible to separate paper sheets certainly one by one. SOLUTION: The paper sheet feeding device is equipped with a drive roller to transport document sheets, a plurality of rollers arranged in the document conveying direction and energized by the drive roller resiliently, and the document separating mechanism to separate document sheets stacked on a document placing part. Each of the rollers is furnished with a torque limiter for stopping the rotation when the specified torque is attained. At least one friction pad is installed between the rollers in their conveying direction. The arrangement further includes a front separation part to abut to the leading edge of the document sheets stacked on the document placing part, and each of sheets separated thereby is sent into a nip part between the drive roller and the rollers.
