PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display method and device capable of preventing spurious outlines at the minimum luminance level from being generated and also capable of expressing satisfactory black of low luminance. SOLUTION: This picture display method and device achieves the above mentioned purposes by receiving picture data of a picture for medical use, discriminating the photographic picture area photographed by a diagnostic device for medical use from a non-photographic picture area being an area other than it and clipping the picture data which are to be supplied to the driving means of a display, with picture data just before becoming the minimum luminance so that a display picture does not become the minimum luminance of the display in the photographic picture area.
