PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fiber treating agent having excellent softening activity and excellent durability in washing keeping the softness for a long period. SOLUTION: This fiber treating agent comprises an amino acid-N-carboxylic acid anhydride represented by the general formula (I) (wherein, R denotes a 1-40C alkyl group, a 1-40C alkenyl group, a 1-40C cycloalkyl group, a 1-40C aralkyl group, a 1-40C aryl group or a 1-40C fluoroalkyl group; and n denotes an integer of 1-6) as an ingredient.
