PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light crystal optical shutter which doesn't require any polarizing plates and oriented films and displays excellent characteristics even with a low voltage. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal optical shutter which has two transparent electrodes and a liquid crystal optical shutter layer supported between these electrodes, the liquid crystal optical shutter layer is constituted of a mixture practically consisting of only a liquid crystal component and a dichroic pigment component (1), and this mixture is directly brought into contact with two transparent electrodes (2), and any oriented films and polarizing plates are not provided (3).
