<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device for an automobile capable of surely protecting a child in the abnormal approaching state without any large alteration in the existing structure. SOLUTION: In the initial expansion state of the air bag 4, the rear end of a tether belt 20 is positioned between a vertical plane B passing a rear end 21 of an instrument panel 2 and a vertical plane A passing the center S of the head of the child M in the condition where the child M taking a seating posture is moved forward so that any part of the body is in contact with the rear end 21 of the instrument panel 2, whereby even if occupants M including the child abnormally approach the instrument panel 2, excessive shock is not applied to the occupants M.</p> |
