PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for decision in decision of whether hot start or not during starting of an engine and to cope with a different tempera ture increase pattern by a simple procedure, in a start control device for a gas turbine engine. SOLUTION: An engine temperature T of a gas turbine engine 1 is detected by a temperature detector 5 and, based on the engine temperature obtained thereby and an engine temperature increase rate Td determined by a derivative calculation block 7, hot start is decided by a hot start decision block 8. The bot start decision block decides whether a temperature state represented by an engine temperature and its increase rate is in a preset hot start region. The hot start region has a rapid increase decision region where prompt decision is effected when the temperature state enters the region and a slow increase decision region where on a condition that a state entering the region is continued for a given time, decision is effected.
