PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ultraviolet curing type coating capable of forming a coating film having excellent appearance, processability, adhesivity, hardness, slipperiness retention after retort treatment and hardness in hot water, suitable for can coating. SOLUTION: This coating composition for an ultraviolet curing type can is characterized by comprising (A) 10-90 pts.wt. of a compound containing an alicyclic epoxy group in the molecule, (B) 10-90 pts.wt. of a compound containing an oxetane ring in the molecule, (C) 1-50 pts.wt. of based on 100 pts.wt. of the total of the components (A) and (B) of a copolymer which is a copolymer of a glycidyl group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer and another polymerizable unsaturated monomer, contains at least one glycidyl group in the molecule and has >=30 deg.C glass transition temperature and (D) 0.01-20 pts.wt. of a cation polymerization initiator generating a cation by ultraviolet radiation. This method for producing a coated metal can comprises application of the coating composition and curing the coating composition by ultraviolet radiation.
