PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide neodymium base composite oxide particles with a high performance of discoloration, in which other elements are added into neodymium oxide particles and an absorption ratio at an absorption wavelength is increased. SOLUTION: Neodymium oxide particles and lithium compounds are compounded with each other at a ratio of 1 mol neodymium atom in neodymium oxide particles to 0.04-1.6 mol lithium atom in lithium compounds. Then, the mixture is fired in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to obtain the neodymium.lithium composite oxide particles.
