PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial process for producing a hydrogenated product of cyclic olefin ring-opening polymerized polymer that has excellent solubility in organic solvents. SOLUTION: A cyclic olefin is subjected to ring-opening metathesis polymerization in a solvent by using a ruthenium compound to which a carbene compound including a hetero atom bearing at least one of a secondary alkyl group or a tertiary alkyl group is coordinated as a catalyst and the resultant ring-opening polymer is hydrogenated so that >=50% of the carbon-carbon double bonds may be saturated in the main chain of the ring-opened polymer.
