PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing high-molecular-weight aliphatic polyester with industrial advantage that bears the copolymerization structure with 3-alkoxy-1,2-propane diol and has excellent elongation at break. SOLUTION: A compound represented by the following general formula (1) (wherein R1 is a 1-22C aliphatic group, R2 is a 1-12C divalent aliphatic group), aliphatic diol and aliphatic dicarboxylic acid derivative are subjected to polycondensation reaction whereby the objective biodegradable aliphatic polyester is produced.
