The machine consists of an input hopper (1) and a cylindrical grading grid (4) with curved parallel transverse bars set at increasing intervals, and a cover (5). The mussels are cleaned and moved along the grading grid by a continuous spiral brush (6) that extends from the bottom of the hopper to the open end (7) of the grid. Between its spirals the brush shaft (9) is fitted with separators (8) to break up the bunches of mussels, while the grid can be rotated to compensate for wear.
