PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ascending/descending device capable of accurately stopping load at a specified descending position. SOLUTION: This ascending/descending device is provided with a hanging member; an ascending/descending portion to which the load can be connected; a fixed portion fixed to a ceiling of a structure and coupled with the ascending/ descending portion through the hanging member; and a driving means including a winding drum to which one end of the hanging member is connected and a motor for rotating the winding drum, and enabling the ascending/descending portion to ascend/descend by using the hanging member; a rotating element providing a not more than one turn while the ascending/descending portion is descended from the highest position and hanging member is completely released from the winding drum; and a stop switch stopping a descent of the ascending/descending portion by stopping power supply to the motor on the basis of the turning amount of the rotating element.
