PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure of and reduce the manufacturing cost of a toolholder holding device, and increase the ratio of force for toolholder extraction to force for insertion thereof. SOLUTION: The toolholder holding device comprises an elastic locking means A that engages a large-diameter portion 32a in the rear of a pull stud 32 of a toolholder 30 to protect the toolholder against dislodgment while a taper portion 31 of the toolholder is fitted in an internal taper surface 11a of a pot 10A. The elastic locking means comprises at least one cantilever leaf spring 20A. The cantilever leaf spring comprises a root portion 20a fixed to the rear of the pot, an intermediate portion 20b extending from the root portion backward in an inclined attitude toward the centerline of the internal taper surface, and a tip portion 20c formed at the rear end of the intermediate portion so as to elastically engage the large-diameter portion of the pull stud.
