PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stirring apparatus and method capable of making the solid matter concentration even in a solid-liquid mixed solution and improving the stirring efficiency of the solid-liquid mixed solution. SOLUTION: In a stirring apparatus 1 for stirring and mixing a solid-liquid mixed solution 4 in a treatment tank, the bottom part 10 of the treatment tank 2 and a portion at a position 15 above the bottom part 10 are connected and circulation lines 17, 11, 18, 11 for circulating the solution 4 in the tank 2 are laid and a pump 12 is installed in the circulation lines to discharge the solution 4 at the position 15 of the tank 2 and lead the solution through the bottom part 10 of the tank 2. In this case, the solution 4 is discharged out at the position 15 by the pump 12 and introduced into the bottom part of the tank 2. In this case, the solid matter concentration at the position 15 is generally not so higher than that in the bottom part 10 of the tank. Consequently, the clogging of the pump 12 with the solid matter can sufficiently be prevented. Further, upward current is generated in the bottom part 10 by the solution 4 introduced into the treatment tank 2 through the bottom part 10 and thus the solid matter is dispersed in the entire solution 4 in the treatment tank 2.
