PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder and a method for estimating the temperature in which the temperature is estimated with high accuracy in a recording head where a plurality of circuit boards are provided on a common base board and recording can be controlled appropriately based on the estimated temperature. SOLUTION: In a recorder performing the recording using a recording head where at least first and second circuit boards each having a plurality of electrothermal converters, i.e., recording elements, are provided on a common base board, the recording elements are driven by applying driving pulses to the plurality of electrothermal converters on the first and second circuit boards, the driving pulses being applied to the first and second circuit boards are counted individually, heat quantities contributive to temperature variation are calculated based on the count for the first and second circuit boards and the base board, and then temperature variation is estimated from the calculated heat quantities for the first and second circuit boards.
