PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor an advancing condition in a recording operation when the recording is performed by using a mobile type ink jet recorder by a manual scanning. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder has an ink jet recording head for performing the recording by ejecting ink and is so constituted that the recording is performed according to recording information received from an external device while a user moves the recording head on a recording medium. When recording is performed by using the ink jet recorder, data for recording an index is added to the recording information so as to record the index (603a, 603b, 603c, 603d) for indicating the advancing condition in the recording is recorded on the recording medium 601 together with recording data 602.
