PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively treating an adsorbent adsorbed halogenated organic compounds such as dioxins and analogues thereof, and for eliminating the elution of heavy metals from the adsorbent at a final disposal area. SOLUTION: This method comprises kneading an adsorbent containing adsorbed halogenated organic compounds with a decomposing agent, adding a decomposition accelerator solution to the mixture, further kneading the resultant mixture, stopping the kneading after the temperature of the mixture begins descension instead of ascension or further comprises adding a chelate solution to the mixture simultaneously with the addition of the decomposition accelerator solution or after the beginning of the descension of the temperature of the mixture instead of ascension.
