PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the vibration of an outer tub caused by the displacement between the center of gravity of the outer tub and the rotation axis of a drum. SOLUTION: A DC brushless motor 10 having a flat structure is fitted to the back face of the outer tub 2 to directly rotatively drive the main spindle 7 of the drum 3. Since a motor fitted to the lower face of the outer tub in the past is not required, the position of the center of gravity of the outer tub 2 and the main spindle 7 can be made to nearly coincide with each other without adding a balancing heavy bob on the upper face f the outer tub 2. The vibration of the outer tub 2 is suppressed, and this washing machine can be made lightweight.
