PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a half cutter control method for restoring an automatically controlled cutter device to a normal condition automatically if abnormal operation occurs in the cutter device and provide a half-cut device and a tape printer provided with the same. SOLUTION: In this half cutter control method in which the return of a cutter blade starting its travel for cutting from a cutting stand-by position to the cutting stand-by position is detected to stop the travel of the cutter blade, the cutter blade is moved in the reverse direction if the return of the cutter blade to the cutting stand-by position is not detected after operation time set in advance elapses from the start of travel for cutting.
