PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding device, in which trial operation is efficiently carried out while restraining and preventing the damage or the like of a grinding wheel. SOLUTION: The grinding device comprises a spindle motor 9 rotating a work to be ground, a motor for wheel spindle stock 14 moving the grinding wheel toward the work to be ground, and a numerical control device 50 for numerically controlling the spindle motor and the motor for wheel spindle stock based on a working operation program including profile data(PFD) of the work to be ground. The grinding device further comprises a program correcting means for correcting the working operation program to keep the work to be ground not being contact with the grinding wheel, a trial operation executing means for carrying out the trial operation based on the numerical control of the spindle motor and the motor for wheel spindle stock by using the corrected program, a contact detecting means 70 detecting the contact of the work to be ground with the grinding wheel during the trial operation, and an interrupting means interrupting the trial operation when the contact is detected.
