PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device which is stable in control performance by restraining the leakage of the oil in a clearance by positively eliminating the clearance extending in the shaft center direction between a seal and a housing even if dimensions are changed caused by the dispersion of the machining accuracy of parts and temperature changing. SOLUTION: In a valve timing adjusting device provided with a housing 10 which is connected to and rotated in synchronism with a crankshaft and constitutes a hydraulic chamber 16 between shoes 15, a rotor 20 which has a vane 23 which is secured and fixed to a cam shaft 21 which opens and closes an intake and exhaust valve and partitions the hydraulic chamber 16 into an advance timing hydraulic chamber 17 and a retard timing hydraulic chamber 18 and is rotatable at a specified angle in the housing 10, sealing members 30 which are contained in a tip of the shoes 15 or the vane 23 for preventing the leakage of the oil between both hydraulic chambers 16 and 17, and first energizing member 32 which energizes the sealing member 30 radially, the sealing member 30 is divided in the direction of the shaft center and is provided with dividing structure which can move relatively in the direction of the shaft center and a second energizing member 35 which energizes the sealing member 30 having been divided toward the shaft center.
