The windscreen wiper blade (4) is mounted on a steel backing strip (5). This may be attracted by an electromagnet (1) mounted over the parking position of the windscreen wiper. The magnet is connected to a socket (3) on the windscreen by a cable (2). The electrical socket is mounted on the outside surface of the windscreen. When the wipers are switched off, the magnet is energized and the windscreen wiper blade is lifted off the windscreen.
