PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the communication disconnection defect of a single reel tape drive by disposing a sensing assembly which prevents the operation infeasbility of a tape drive by the communication disconnection defect. SOLUTION: This sensing assembly includes a microprocessor, cam and position sensor which impart a feedback relating to the communication disconnection state of the buckle between a take-up leader and a tape cartridge. The microprocessor detects the first position and second position of the take-up leader in the tape route by using the position sensor. The microprocessor determines whether the communication is disconnected or not before the take-up leader and the tape cartridge discharge the tape cartridge. The operation of the loading motor is halted for a short time during the sensing by this cam.
