PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved color image processing for realizing automatic interpretation processing, resulting in more accurate result. SOLUTION: Connected constituents (adjacent pixels having the same color) in a digital image are separated into a background and other connected components, and subsequently, other connected constituents are allocated to either of the background or a foreground on the basis of a predetermined standard. A foreground connected component's are connected to an information element suitable for automatic interpretation. Before being divided into an image element including information and the background, color-quantization of the digital image data may be carried out. |
