PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent enlarging and flatting of a shell and make discharge of residual water in the shell profitable, while enhancing a silencing effect by sufficiently long extending an outlet pipe, in the silencer for an engine provided with an inlet pipe connected to an exhaust pipe, an outlet pipe opened to the atmospheric air, and an expansion chamber connecting both these pipes, in the shell. SOLUTION: In order to enhance a silencing effect, an outlet pipe 20 is constituted by long extending it by an exhaust gas advancing in pipe part 21, a return direction pipe part 22, an exhaust gas discharge pipe part 23, and two direction change pipes 25 connecting these pipe parts in series, the pipe parts 21, 22, 23 are arranged in parallel in the lengthwise direction of a shell 2, axial lines 21L, 22L, 23L of these pipe parts are arranged so as to be positioned in each vertex of a triangle.
