PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a finder optical system, with which the miniaturization of entire optical equipment is attained and observation magnification is maintained to be sufficiently high and whose visibility is made superior by properly correcting the various kinds of aberration and to provide optical equipment using it. SOLUTION: The finder optical system for observing an object image formed on a focusing screen by a photographing optical system possesses first, second, third, fourth and fifth reflection surfaces to successively reflect a luminous flux emitted from the reticle, a first lens group arranged between the third reflection surface and the fourth reflection surface, a second lens group arranged between the fourth reflection surface and the fifth reflection surface and a third lens group arranged behind the fifth reflection surface. A subject image formed on the focusing screen by the first lens group is reduced and formed again between the fourth reflection surface and the fifth reflection surface, and the subject image formed again by the second lens group and the third lens group is enlarged and observed.
