PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for image formation which can prevent wrong image formation conditions from being set owing to fogging caused on an image carrier when a patch image is formed. SOLUTION: After a patch sensor detects the toner density between patch images, i.e., inter-patch density, it is decided according to the inter-patch images whether or not fogging is caused by the formation of the patch images. Thus, the fogging in density adjustment processing is easily and accurately detected. If fogging is detected in fogging decision processing for one tone color among multiple toner colors, the formation of the patch images is interrupted to interrupt the density adjustment processing and unnecessary patch images are prevented from being formed to effectively suppress a waste of time and a waste of toner. |
