PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which is capable of more easily making a phase type volume hologram optical element by transfer of a master hologram. SOLUTION: A cell formed by grasping a mixed composition composed of liquid crystals and high-polymer precursors between at least a pair of transparent substrates having transparent electrodes is subjected to the transfer of the master hologram by interfering an incident laser beam for interference exposure and the reflected light by the master hologram on the rear surface of the cell by a process step of bringing a master hologram reflection film into tight contact with the rear surface of the cell, a process step of bringing a prism into tight contact with the incident light side of the cell and a process step of making the laser beam incident at an arbitrary angle on the prism surface to cause the interference exposure. |
