PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoreceptor which ensures superior printing resistance, does not cause image flowing because of hydrophobicity of the surface enhanced to such a degree that a heater for heating the photoreceptor is not installed and eliminates unevenness in potential characteristics. SOLUTION: The photoreceptor 1 is obtained by forming a photosensitive layer 3 on an electrically conductive substrate 2 and disposing a surface protecting layer 4 on the photosensitive layer 3. The surface protecting layer 4 comprises amorphous carbon containing 0.0001-1.0 at.% oxygen atoms and 0.1-25 at.% fluorine atoms and the hardness of the layer 4 is 6-60 times that of the photosensitive layer 3.
